This project was commissioned as a contemporary design and installation, with the hardscape theme to match the clean lines of the house and new annex. Planting is designed to soften the scheme and add seasonal interest. The main views are from the picture window in the kitchen and upon entering the house. The existing garden comprised of a small area of turf and a few shrubs past their best with very dated hardscape from the 1970s.
Installed in spring 2020, the planting was designed to give a stylish but relaxed coastal feel to link with the interior of the house; and as the site is positioned just a couple of hundred yards form the coast, the planting utilised a range of appropriate species, adding texture and depth.
The use of perennials, grasses and herbs through a framework of shrubs gives informality, while maintaining an uncluttered look whilst trees have been selected for seasonal interest and colour
